Responsibilities

  • Faculty rank (i.e., Assistant or Associate Professor) will be determined based on experience and scholarship
  • Every effort has been made to identify the essential functions of this position
  • This includes but is not limited to generating new clinical rotation sites and maintaining on-going professional relationships with existing sites
  • Ensure that students participating in clinical rotations adhere to the standards of training as outlined by the accrediting body, placement site and PA program
  • Ensure maintenance of student records related to clinical rotations
  • Orient students to the general protocol for clinical rotations and provide them with resources to support success
  • Track and document student performance; collaborate with clinical preceptors to advise students
  • Oversee the preparation of all clinical education documents, handbooks, manuals, assessment tools, and surveys
  • Teach courses as determined by the program director which includes curriculum development, delivery, and evaluation in both didactic and clinical components
  • Recommend ongoing program modifications based on outcome measures
  • Participate in interprofessional education activities within the School of Health and Natural Sciences
  • Service of program, School, and University Committees
  • Assist other faculty in the evaluation of student performance on clinical examinations and lab practicals and other assessments when needed
  • Participate in the program’s ongoing self-study process
  • Participate in the program’s admissions process and assist with other responsibilities as determined by program leadership
  • Participate in the Program’s community based primary care Mobile Health Vehicle Initiative
  • Attend national conferences (American Academy of Physician Assistants, Physician Assistant Education Association, and National Commission of Certification of Physician Assistant) keeping abreast of professional trends
  • Represent the PA Program at School Clinical Education Team meetings
  • Responsible for all related duties as assigned by the Program Director

Job description

The School of Health and Natural Sciences at Mercy University invites qualified candidates to apply for a full-time (12-month) faculty position to serve as a clinical coordinator in Physician Assistant Studies Program in the School of Health and Natural Sciences at Mercy University beginning Fall 2024. Faculty rank (i.e., Assistant or Associate Professor) will be determined based on experience and scholarship. This is an opportunity to join the accredited Physician Assistant Program located in the Bronx NY, home to multiple hospitals which partner with the program to support clinical placements. The surrounding community and student body are ethnically and culturally diverse, and the program focuses on preparing students for primary care in underserved communities. The program, and School of Health and Natural Sciences, has a rich history of both local and global community service through our mobile health vehicle and global missions.
The PA Program is part of the School of Health and Natural Sciences with 4 accredited graduate health professional programs (communication disorders, occupational therapy, physical therapy, and physician assistant studies) and undergraduate programs in biology, clinical laboratory science, communication disorders, exercise science, occupational therapy assistant (AAS degree), and veterinary technology. We have a strong focus on interprofessional education as well as local and global community service.

Education Requirements:
• Masters Degree (MS, MPA, MPH) required
• Doctoral degree preferred (EdD, DMSc, MD, or PhD)
Other Qualifications:
• If applicant is a physician assistant: Current NCCPA Certification and New York State License or eligibility for a NY License as a Physician Assistant
• A minimum of 3 years of clinical experience
• A minimum of 1 years of teaching experience at time of appointment
• Experience in clinical supervision and academic administration preferred
• Must be able to meet all general health requirements for the position as per university policies
