Responsibilities

  • This position will perform a variety of specialized tasks to support the operations of our Central Utility Plants, including testing, renovating, overhauling, replacing, and performing preventive maintenance on standard electrical systems
  • Troubleshoot electrical issues on plant equipment such as chillers, boilers, and auxiliary equipment
  • Collaborate with inspectors, contractors, and department liaisons as required
  • Repair and maintain electrical equipment, distribution systems, minor controls, and signal equipment
  • Inspect work sites and assess material and tool requirements
  • Plan and execute conduit runs, wire pulls, and equipment assembly
  • Perform tasks such as replacing light bulbs, fixtures, and circuit breakers
  • Install new electrical systems to support minor modifications
  • Maintain motors, electrical distribution systems, and auxiliary equipment
  • Provide comprehensive and accurate information on planned/preventive maintenance items
  • This position has been designated as Essential Personnel for the University and may be required to report to work during adverse weather conditions
  • Required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) as necessary

Department: Facilities Division

The North Carolina State University Facilities Division ensures that the campus’s physical environment supports the university’s mission 24 hours a day, 365 days a year. Our diverse team of approximately 900 dedicated professionals plans for current and future needs, builds high-impact facilities, and maintains the campus.

We are seeking a highly skilled Electrical Maintenance Technician to join our Central Utility Plants operations team. This position will perform a variety of specialized tasks to support the operations of our Central Utility Plants, including testing, renovating, overhauling, replacing, and performing preventive maintenance on standard electrical systems.

Preferred Qualifications
• Preferred NC Electrical Contractor license.
• Experience in the electrical trade in maintenance in utilities or academic facility.
• Understanding of Lock Out Tag Out procedures.
• Knowledge of Federal and North Carolina safety policies and procedures.
Required License or Certification
• Valid driver’s license required.
• A valid North Carolina driver’s license must be obtained within 60 days of start date and must be maintained.
