Job Advert

We are looking for volunteers to represent Mencap and support our upcoming event on Thursday 18th April at the Hackney Opportunity Centre in Hackney, between 9.30am and 1pm. We need volunteers to assist us with the set up and support attendees on the day, to ensure these important sessions run smoothly.

This event will help educate people to understand how they can start their own campaigns about things that matter to them, and explain the assistance that Mencap can offer.

What you will be doing:

  • Signing people in and welcoming them to the session
  • Assisting with giving directions around the venues
  • Supporting attendees as needed to ensure they have everything they need
  • Giving out refreshments (tea/coffee etc)
  • Facilitating conversation groups and activities to encourage contributions from everyone
  • Assisting on gathering event feedback

Please Note:

Some of the conversations at the events may be emotive. Volunteers will not need to know anything about activism to undertake the role.

When do I need to be available?
Date:18th April 2024
Location: Hackney Opportunity Hub, 139 Bowling Green Walk, Corner of Pitfield Street, London, N1 6AL
Timings: 9:30am to 1pm
Ideally you will be able to volunteer for the whole event, however we are flexible if you are only available during certain times.

Benefits

What can you expect from us?

  • You will be given all the information you need for your role
  • Support from one of our experienced Activism Coaches
  • Agreed out-of-pocket expenses to be reimbursed (e.g. travel)
  • To meet new people and be part of a team
  • To feel appreciated and valued
  • You will be able to partake in the session and learn about campaigning and activism
