At Bookmark Reading Charity, we exist to change children’s life stories through the joy of reading. Volunteers are vital to our ongoing success at Bookmark and our team are focused on providing them with a positive and rewarding volunteer experience. As a Volunteer Coordinator, you will play a key role in the communications with, support for and retention of volunteers. You will also help develop the volunteer experience across the organisation, ensuring continuity and quality in our volunteer involvement practices.​

Primary Responsibilities​​

  • Work with the Volunteer Services Manager to deliver the Volunteer Strategy and Bookmark’s vision​
  • Deliver mechanisms to maintain or improve volunteer activeness , satisfaction and retention​
  • Act as primary contact for volunteers, supporting with enquiries and concerns​
  • Deliver ongoing volunteer stewardship and recognition functions​
  • Coordinate and facilitate the delivery of events and drop-in sessions for prospective, onboarding and onboarded volunteers​
  • Deliver continuous development and coordination of other support services, including but not limited to our volunteer messaging platform, engagement resources and the Volunteer Helpline​
  • Facilitate peer-to-peer engagement opportunities for volunteers​
  • Conduct, report and advise on volunteer feedback and insights​
  • Support with delivery of Volunteer Advisory Board​
  • Support with creation and delivery of volunteer marketing and publicity opportunities​
  • Deliver prospective and current volunteer communications​
  • Deliver ongoing volunteer problem-solving and complaints functions​
  • Provide volunteer references upon request​
  • Operate recurring volunteer data and reporting functions​
  • Operate bespoke volunteer programming, including single session delivery​
  • Liaise with Schools Team to communicate and action feedback and requests​
  • Manage volunteer vetting and training update procedures​
  • Deliver ad hoc volunteer engagement functions ​
  • Input and maintain accurate and up-to-date information on our systems, including Salesforce CRM and SharePoint​​
  • Assist Application Support Team to deliver volunteer interviews and processing during periods of high volunteer application volume​
  • Any other reasonable duties, as required​

Person specification

Essential

  • Experience of supporting volunteers​
  • Understanding of the external volunteering environment and relevant implications for volunteering and service delivery​
  • Excellent organisation and project planning skills​
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written​​
  • Experience with safeguarding procedures​
  • Enthusiastic, professional and positive approach with a strong customer service ethos​​​
  • Structured problem-solving approach with excellent attention to detail​​​
  • Ability to work independently and contribute as part of a team​​
  • ​Ability to be persuasive, motivating and empathetic when liaising with volunteers and staff​
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (particularly Outlook, Excel and Word)​​​
  • Passionate about our vision and mission​​​

Desirable

  • Salesforce and / or SharePoint experience​​
  • Data-driven approach ​
  • Customer service or client support experience​
  • Experience involving volunteers in youth or academic settings​
  • Understanding of the legislative and regulatory requirements relevant to volunteers​
  • Familiarity with the Investing in Volunteers (IIV) quality standard​
  • Experience as a volunteer​
