Opportunity

AIMCo’s Private Equity (“PE”) team manages approximately C$13 billion of assets, comprised of a combination of external PE Fund Commitments and Co-Investments. The team is seeking a Principal who will contribute to the analysis of Private Equity investment opportunities across a range of asset types, industries and geographies; assist with managing the existing portfolio of assets; and play a key role in building the Private Equity team’s presence in London.

Responsibilities Include:
  • Developing a deep understanding of existing investment partners in Europe, and playing a key role in ongoing oversight and monitoring of portfolio investments
  • Researching, examining, and evaluating prospective investments and industries of interest, including for both Co-Investment and Fund investment opportunities
  • Building and reviewing complex and dynamic financial models to analyze PE opportunities
  • Leading due diligence meetings with management teams, PE fund partners, transaction advisors, and other external parties
  • Being an ambassador for AIMCo PE in London and the European market more broadly by attending and participating in AGMs, conferences, and other industry events
  • Managing relationships with other institutional investors, consultants, lawyers and other advisors in order to develop deep expertise in the European market
  • Playing a lead role in crafting Investment Committee (IC) memorandums and participating in meetings seeking approval for new investment opportunities at both the Private Equity IC (PEIC) and full AIMCo IC levels
  • Collaborating with internal departments within AIMCo, including Legal, Risk, Valuations, Compliance, Responsible Investing, etc., to ensure all internal processes are in place to complete investments once approval is received
  • Training and mentoring junior professionals, including PE Analysts and Associates in different offices and other colleagues within the London office
  • Actively collaborating with a global investment team to continue to build a high-performing PE program and drive value for AIMCo’s clients
Our Ideal Candidate Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in Commerce, Business Administration, Finance, or another related field
  • 8-12 years of relevant work experience in Private Equity, Investment Banking, Transaction Services, or other related professions
  • Proven ability to assess and manage complex investment opportunities, often involving multiple competing characteristics, workstreams, and stakeholders Ability to be a confident and effective communicator, with proven track record for building consensus, voicing thoughtful opinions and collaborating with colleagues.
  • Experience building, motivating and developing high-performing teams, and being a culture carrier who operates with integrity and humility
  • Demonstrated strong commitment to AIMCo’s core values of excellence, transparency, humility, integrity and collaboration, and inspires the same in others
Success Measures:
Investing in funds, co-investments and secondaries, AIMCo PE is building a global, diversified portfolio designed to deliver strong, persistent risk-adjusted returns on behalf of AIMCo’s clients. This role will directly contribute to that mandate by managing and monitoring existing investments, evaluating and building connections with top-performing Private Equity partners in the region, and playing a leading role in establishing AIMCo PE’s presence in London and beyond.
