Junior Clinical Fellow in HIV medicine

Full time – 10 Programmed Activities

Applications are invited for the post of Junior Clinical Fellow in HIV medicine. The post is based at the Denmark Hill site at King’s College Hospital NHS Foundation Trust.

The principal duties include the day-to-day ward care of people living with HIV admitted under the care of the HIV team with HIV related conditions and opportunistic infections. The post is ideal for applicants planning a career in GU/HIV medicine or Infectious Diseases who would like to obtain specific experience in HIV medicine. Alongside inpatient care, the Junior Clinical Fellow will be expected to undertake, under supervision, a weekly discharge clinic for follow up of patients recently discharged from hospital. Opportunities for experience in Sexual health and Genito-urinary medicine are also available.

Our service is situated in an area of South London with high local prevalence of HIV. In addition to the busy clinical service, the department has an active teaching and training programme and a wide-ranging portfolio of research studies, in both Sexual Health and HIV, which the successful candidate will be encouraged to actively contribute to.

The principal duties include the day-to-day ward care of patients admitted with HIV related conditions and opportunistic infections. The post holder will be expected to supervise and work closely with the ward registrar and co-present patients at multidisciplinary meetings and consultant ward rounds. The number of inpatients directly admitted under the HIV team ranges from 4-10 at any one time. The JCF will be expected to carry out specialist review for additional HIV positive inpatients who are not directly admitted under the HIV team. There are three consultant ward round per week

HIV management includes clerking patients on admission, managing and investigating patients, conducting ward rounds, undertaking practical procedures such as lumbar puncture, preparing patient MDT lists and the weekly radiology meeting, outpatient follow up on discharge, attending other meetings, eg. case conferences and completing HARS coding (UKHSA reporting) where required.

The JCF may be expected to undertake a clinic for newly diagnosed HIV patients or an HIV emergency clinic for walk-in patients

The JCF will have the option of covering walk-in sexual and reproductive health clinics at the Camberwell Sexual Health Clinic (CSHC).
