Trust Junior Doctor in Emergency Department (FY2)- Northwick Park/ Ealing Hospital

An excellent opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated Junior Doctor Doctor to join the Emergency Department at Northwick Park/Ealing Hospital. The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of the care of patients in the Emergency Department(ED). He/she will have direct responsibility for the management of patients. A consultant is present on the shop floor between 8am to Midnight, 7 days a week at EH and 0800-0000 from Tuesday – Thursday and 24hrs cover from Friday- Monday at NWP hospital. Outside these hours one of the middle grade doctors is designated to undertake the ‘lead role’ and works in close liaison with the nurse co-ordinator to ensure the department runs efficiently.

A ‘Rapid Assessment Traige facilitates more efficient processing of patients who are deemed not likely to require admission.

In addition to main shop-floor duties the successful candidate will also participate in the care of patients in the Clinical Decision Unit, working alongside the ED Consultant for the work up of low risk patients presenting with acute chest pain.

The wide range of clinical interfaces provides a stimulating and rewarding experience for the clinician with ample opportunity for training.

Clinical –

The successful candidate will be involved in all aspects of the care of patients in the Emergency Department (ED). He/she will have direct responsibility for the management of patients. In addition to main shop-floor duties the successful candidate will also participate in the care of patients in the Clinical Decision Unit, incorporating Same Day Emergency Care (SDEC). The wide range of clinical interfaces provides a stimulating and rewarding experience for the clinician with ample opportunity for training. Working alongside a team of clinical, nursing, admin staff providing safe patient care to the public.
Timetable

The contracted hours are for up to 48 hours of work per week. The appointee will be expected to work on a rostered basis covering the full 24-hour period. Current Rotas are available in the “Contract Offer” document, along with the terms of Annual Leave and Study Leave.

Teaching:
We provide a comprehensive teaching programme that’s delivered cross-site for all ED doctors working at Northwick Park and Ealing Hospitals. The programme is mapped to the RCEM curriculum and consists of both adult and paediatric emergency medicine topics. We are proud to record and host our sessions on our own departmental teaching platform and learning management system. Our sessions include:

Tuesdays: Consultant and speciality delivered emergency medicine teaching

1 st Wednesday of the month: Paediatric emergency medicine teaching

2 nd Wednesday of the month: Clinical case reports

3 rd Wednesday of the month: Journal club

4 th Wednesday of the month: Registrar-delivered teaching

Last Friday of the month: Radiology case reports

In addition we provide regular small group high-fidelity multidisciplinary simulation training as well as support with writing and publishing case reports.
Audit and QIP

JTGs are expected to participate in ongoing Audit and Quality Improvement Projects within the department. There is an extensive programme of national, regional and local Audit and QIP ongoing within the EDs
