Job overview

An inspiring and enthusiastic teacher is sought who will play a key role in a supportive, collaborative and experienced mathematics department. The role would suit either an early career teacher or a teacher seeking further experience. While the ability to teach to A Level might be an advantage this role will be focused on KS3 and KS4.

Students are streamed from Year 7 into two groups, with all groups sitting the GCSE Examination at the end of Year 11. We follow the Edexcel syllabus for GCSE and A level. The department also offers GCSE Statistics as an option subject from year 9 as the popularity for maths continues to increase.

Our teachers ensure that each student is provided with the confidence to develop their mathematical knowledge from Year 7 through to public examinations. Each student is expected to fulfil their mathematical potential in an environment where they can work with understanding but be challenged and extended.

All staff at ArtsEd are expected to sustain and improve the quality of training and education that is offered to the pupils in the school. Our ethos is one of shared responsibility to which all teachers make a significant contribution. You will be expected to generate, along with the other members of successful department, the vision and ethos for the course and work together to develop the most innovative core units for students.

Responsibilities as a subject teacher:

  • To teach Maths across the school
  • To maintain and monitor appropriate records of pupils’ learning and achievements
  • To support the design, development and writing of suitable schemes of work for students of all abilities
  • To write reports, attend parents’ meetings and respond to parents’ enquiries.
  • To advocate for and implement the school’s agreed policies and procedures
  • To maintain effective discipline through the implementation of the school’ agreed procedures.
  • To take part in the performance management and appraisals programme.
  • To attend and make meaningful contributions to meetings as appropriate
  • To maintain liaison with classes and individual pupils’ form tutors.
  • To take on the pastoral responsibilities of a Form Tutor
  • To keep abreast of all exam specifications

 


Finance and Resources

  • To work within the budget allocated for certain tasks by the Head of Department.
  • To keep an accurate written record of all books/equipment sold to pupils in the school
  • To provide a list of these disbursements when required by the Head of Department
  • To oversee the provision and maintenance of effective resources for learning: textbooks, student materials, equipment and rooms.

 


Curriculum

  • To make a significant contribution to the department through effective planning and teaching
  • To initiate, develop and maintain schemes of work, within and around the framework of the National Curriculum and the requirements of the examination boards, working collaboratively with the Head of Department
  • To maintain sound discipline within the school’s agreed policies
  • To strive for excellence in the quality of teaching and learning within the department and ensure that curricular records are kept and reports written
  • To ensure that health and safety issues are properly adhered to and procedures are followed effectively and consistently.

 


Communication and meetings

  • To attend and contribute to meetings for the department and others within school
  • To adhere to plans, policies and decisions made during such meetings.
  • All staff must promote and safeguard the welfare of children and young persons for who you are responsible and with whom you come into contact.
  • All staff must carry out their responsibilities with due regard to all ArtsEd policies and procedures, ensuring inclusivity, equality of opportunity, and compliance with Health and Safety in the workplace.
  • All staff must respect the confidentiality of data stored electronically and by other means in line with the Data Protection Act.
  • All staff must adhere to the staff Code of Conduct.
  • All staff are required to regularly undertake Safeguarding, Keeping Children Safe in Education, Prevent, and GDPR training and to maintain their own professionalism and job-related knowledge through ongoing CPD.
  • All members of staff are required to be professional, co-operative, and flexible in line with the needs of the post and the school.
  • All Job Descriptions are reviewed annually and will change to reflect the needs of the School and the post.
  • ArtsEd is committed to the safety, wellbeing and safeguarding of all pupils and students and expects all staff to share this commitment. Staff in all posts are required to hold a clear, enhanced DBS.
  • You may also be required to undertake such other comparable duties as your line manager or the Head requires from time to time.
  • Demonstrate a total commitment to safeguarding children.

The Arts Educational Schools London, is an independent secondary school and higher education provider based in Chiswick, West London.

The Arts Educational Schools have their origin in schools founded in 1919 by Grace Cone and in 1922 by Olive Ripman. The Cone and Ripman schools were pioneers in providing talented children with a general academic education in conjunction with specialised training in dance, drama, music and art, preparing young men and women for professional careers in or connected with the theatre. In 1939 the two schools amalgamated to become the Cone Ripman School.

Today ArtsEd continues to support a world–renowned,co-educational, independent vocational school for pupils aged 11–18 years as well as a professional conservatoire, with two main divisions, offering BA and MA degrees in Acting and BA, and MA degrees in Musical Theatre, all of which are validated by City University and accredited by Drama UK.
