William Hulme’s Grammar School (WHGS) is an all-through school and one of the most over-subscribed schools in Manchester. We have an excellent reputation and high aspirations for all our students, who enjoy an academic and creatively rich curriculum and are equipped with the skills that will help them to become responsible members of the local and global community.

We have an exciting opportunity for a subject leader of Psychology and Sociology to be responsible for leading the department from September 2025. The ideal candidate should be able to enthuse and motivate learners at A Level and encourage students across the school in their pursuit of the Social Sciences. The department offers both A Level Psychology and Sociology, both of which are two of the most popular subject choices for our Key Stage 5 students. Experience of teaching at least one of these subjects at A Level is essential, both would be desirable. The Subject Leader for Psychology and Sociology will share our commitment to providing the very best educational opportunities in all aspects of school life for our students.

This is a key leadership position where you will work directly with other subject leaders, the wider pastoral team and extended leadership team. You will lead, manage and effectively deploy staff and resources within the Psychology and Sociology department, monitor and evaluate the development of teaching and learning strategies for students, and ensure that staff are provided with relevant information and training relating to the support of their students.

The successful candidate should aspire to be an excellent leader with a proven track record of delivering strong practice and academic outcomes in Psychology and/or Sociology; they will be a committed and flexible leader who can inspire others to raise aspirations through an ambitious and inclusive curriculum.
