The Year 5 Clinical Fellow will work as part of a cross functional team to include the following: Neuroendocrine Tumour (NET) Consultant, Nuclear Medicine Consultant, Technologists and Clinical Nurse Specialist and will carry out the following activities.

Support NETs Service delivery.

Support NET Clinic/ identify patients for appropriate treatment.

Involved in the therapy planning process.

The post will be based at the Royal Free Hampstead site.

The post includes working in collaboration with a multi-disciplinary team to deliver the services in line with performance KPIs and clinical outcome metrics. The job requires the post holder to be able to work under pressure and to be flexible and adaptive to the needs of the patient and the service.

The post holder will provide professional clinical advice to other members of the nuclear medicine department, referring clinicians and hospital management and will attend relevant departmental meetings to ensure safe and effective services.

The post holder must ensure they champion and lead by example on the values of the Trust, setting an example for colleagues.

THE DEPARTMENT

Overview of the Nuclear Medicine Service at Royal Free London

The nuclear medicine service at the Royal Free Hospital provides a wide range of general nuclear medicine imaging and hybrid imaging with SPECT-CT and PET-CT, as well as being the largest UK centre for peptide receptor radionuclide therapy for neuroendocrine tumours.

The Royal Free London is one of the largest referral services for neuroendocrine tumours in Europe, and as a result there is access to Ga68 Dotatate PET-CT and radionuclide therapies. The department is currently involved in several imaging and therapy research studies involving Lu-PSMA.

The successful appointees will be given a share in an office with the other consultants and trainees.

RESPONSIBILITIES & DETAILS OF THE POST

The applicant would be expected to manage the radioligand therapies including scheduling of patients, clerking of patients. The applicant would be expected to review patients with neuroendocrine tumours.

The appointee will be expected to discuss and agree a detailed job plan including personal and professional objectives with the Clinical Director within 3 months of his or her start dates. He/she may also be asked to undertake a prospective diary exercise to inform this process.

All job plans are reviewed annually in consultation with the appointee and may be altered in line with the changing needs of the Trust. This will be linked to annual appraisal/ performance review and identification of his/her continuing professional development needs.

Annual appraisal provides a framework not only for reflection and personal development, but will also contribute significantly to job planning as well as providing a basis for revalidation.

GENERAL RESPONSIBILITIES

Infection Control

Infection control is everyone’s responsibility. All staff, both clinical and non-clinical, are required to adhere to the Trust’s Infection Prevention and Control policies and procedures and the Health Act (2006) Code of Practice for the prevention and control healthcare associated infections and make every effort to maintain high standards of infection control at all times thereby reducing the risk of Healthcare Associated infections.

Every staff member must take personal responsibility for the prevention and control of infection, as laid down in the Trust’s policies and procedures, which reflect the statutory requirements of the Hygiene Code.

  • To work in close collaboration with the Infection Control Team.
  • To ensure that monitoring of clinical practice is undertaken at the agreed frequency.
  • To ensure that the ward environments are cleaned and maintained to the highest standards; ensuring that shortfalls are rectified or escalate as necessary.
  • To ensure that all relevant monitoring data and issues are provided to the Directorate’s Governance structures.
  • To ensure that all staff are released to attend infection control-related educational sessions and staff with specialist roles, e.g. link practitioners, are released to undertake their duties.
