Introduction to Role:
Are you ready to make a significant impact in the medical field? As the Patient Advocacy Lead at AstraZeneca, you will be at the forefront of developing and delivering our patient advocacy relations strategy. This role is a key part of our UK Corporate Affairs team, ensuring that we build relationships with the Patient Advocacy community that advance our company towards achieving its medical missions in a collaborative, patient-centric way.
Accountabilities:
As the Patient Advocacy Lead, you will be responsible for strategic leadership on UK company-wide PAG relations, ensuring robust processes for engagement of PAGs and patient representatives. You will identify and consolidate therapy area needs for patient engagement and ensure a consistent approach across the business. You will also manage engagement with above disease PAGs such as National Voices and The Patients Association, and work closely with internal communications to ensure company leadership on patient engagement is communicated to staff at the right times.
- Provide support to the wider UK Corporate Affairs team in developing and maintaining appropriate relationships with PAGs with direct links to our core disease areas.
- Lead in ensuring the UK Corporate Affairs team, and wider business, has strong, current insights into pressures and priorities of our key patient communities.
- Advance the UK Patient Advocacy Relations Strategy, liaising with global Patient Centricity leadership, to ensure we leverage AstraZeneca’s footprint in the UK and support UK PAGs in their ambition to guide the industry and shape how to deliver to patient needs.
- Identify and develop long term partnerships and collaborative activities with PAGs that benefit the wider AstraZeneca company as well as the patients the PAGs look to serve and support.
- Own the process by which we appropriately engage with PAGs as they seek to inform decisions on patient access to the latest innovations, working closely with the Market Access team.
- Identify and direct appropriate activities to enhance the visibility of the company leadership to build on our reputation in this space.
- Work seamlessly with internal communications to ensure company leadership on patient engagement is communicated to staff at the right times, bringing in the patient and/or PAG voice where appropriate to various company events and through various company channels of communication.
- Work closely with relevant colleagues in AZ’s Global Corporate Affairs to contribute to the further development of AstraZeneca’s Patient Centricity and Patient Advocacy work globally, ensuring that all external and internal activities are well coordinated and synergistic.
- Ensure all transfer of value reporting of funds to PAGs is dealt with correctly and in a timely manner.
- Provide relevant training and guidance/counsel for staff to help them understand where compliantly, we can engage with patients.
Essential Skills/Experience:
- Patient Group experience OR Pharmaceutical Industry Experience
- Proven relationship development/management skills
- Clear strategic thinker with evidence of development and management of robust processes
- Experience of successful leadership without authority
Desirable Skills/Experience:
- Experience of working within one or more of our core disease areas
- Relevant vocational qualifications or equivalent experience
