Where you’ll work:

At OVO, we understand that a one size fits all approach doesn’t work for everyone. That’s why we created the OVO Way of Flexibility.

All our roles are hub based (Bristol, Glasgow or London), providing a dedicated space for collaboration, connection and teamwork. You’ll also have the flexibility to work from home. Due to the nature of this role we require London based candidates.

Brand Strategy & Management (Brand for short!) sits in our Brand & Marketing department, which is made up of six teams – Insights, Comms Planning, Brand, Advertising, Sponsorship & Creative Studio. You’ll be reporting directly to our Director of Brand & Marketing who oversees these functions.

You’ll also forge strong cross functional relationships with teams all across OVO – from corporate comms, PR, product and tech to CRM and customer care.

Our Brand Strategy & Management team are responsible for creating the frameworks for our brand – think brand and product positioning, naming and guidelines – and helping teams execute these across a complex and large real estate via brand toolkits, brand management and partnership with our Creative Studio. Ultimately helping the business work towards our common goal – making energy better for people and the planet. In 2025 this will include some large brand management challenges as we explore uncharted territories and continue to deliver at speed for the customer.

 

This role in a nutshell:

Over the last 18 months we’ve launched and rolled out a comprehensive brand strategy & identity refresh – giving us a robust and well established brand framework. As our current Head of Brand heads off on maternity leave, we’re looking for an experienced and effective brand leader to step in and help steer the ship.

This is a broad reaching role, offering a great opportunity to drive real customer value and help build a brand with iconic intentions in a fast-paced and ever-evolving industry. Reporting into our Director of Brand and Marketing, you’ll work highly independently and cross functionally – regularly interfacing with our Creative Studio, other departments and our agency partners.

You’ll need both a strong eye for stand out creative and be able to spot a 10/10 strategic positioning from a mile off.

 

Your key outcomes will be:

Brand Strategy (supported by our Senior Brand Strategist and Creative Strategist)

  • Ownership of our Brand Architecture, working closely with senior leadership to ensure the rapid pace of proposition development is structured in a way that works for our customers
  • Ownership of our overarching Brand Strategy, making sure it’s fit for purpose & known across the business
  • Accountable for naming & positioning of propositions
  • Responsible for developing our annual Corporate Affairs Brand & Marketing strategy
  • Ownership of our design target audience definition and literature in partnership with our Insights team – making sure the business understands, can use and feels close to our audience.
  • Accountable for creative strategy support for our Creative Studio on larger, more complex creative asks

Brand Management (supported by our Brand Lead, Brand Manager and Brand Exec)

  • Accountable for maintenance and development of our brand guidelines, making sure they’re fit for purpose. Includes identifying new areas of exploration and creating channel specific flexibility and application.
  • Accountable for our brand toolkit being fit for purpose, making sure the business has what it needs to bring the brand to life. E.g. delivery of regular photoshoots, icon & illustration development, video footage, stock music etc.
  • Accountable for our overall creative direction, working closely with our Head of Creative Studio, Lead Designer and Lead Copywriter
  • Accountable for Brand Management across the business. This includes both strategic brand management, partnering upstream with teams as they create brand new experiences and propositions, and more executional brand management, reviewing all customer facing assets for brand alignment.
  • Accountable for trademark & domain infringement management

Team Management

  • Leading our high performing Brand Strategy & Management team of five, coaching each member to develop, deliver and thrive at OVO.
  • Accountability for our Brand Strategy & Management Budget
  • Accountable for Team roadmaps and communication of focus to stakeholders

Within your first 3 months month you’ll:

  • Develop a strong understanding of our Brand and ability to independently make decisions on applications and flex
  • Develop strong relationships with senior leadership & peers across the organisation, becoming their go-to for complex Brand-related questions
  • Start looking for ways to improve how we structure, train, approach or execute our Brand

  • Know the fundamentals of Brand building like the back of your hand, and are able to articulate and defend them to a myriad of stakeholders
  • Enjoy interfacing with large numbers of stakeholders, and working on a large number of projects simultaneously
  • Take joy in creative development, working closely with agencies, designers and copywriters to craft great work
  • Have strong experience in managing a brand across large and complex B2C organisations
  • Work best when you’re trusted by leadership to get things done with the support of a knowledgeable and talented team.
  • Have the drive to build a best-in-class brand

We’ll pay you between £85,230 and £112,000, depending on your specific skills and experience. If your expectations are a little different, have a chat with us!

You’ll be eligible for an on-target bonus of 15%. We have one OVO bonus plan that focuses on the collective performance of our people to deliver our Plan Zero goal.
