Regular Duties

Our Services Desk is the heart of HOEM, the first point of contact for our residents. We answer questions, offer support, and create positive first impressions, ensuring every student feels at home. We’re seeking friendly, outgoing individuals who love connecting with students. The ideal candidate will excel in casual conversations, provide helpful resources, and foster a sense of community. Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, are essential. You’ll need to multitask, manage time effectively, stay calm, and think critically in dynamic situations. Patience, flexibility, and a positive attitude are key to success in this role. A high-level overview of the role includes:

Our Experience Leaders are approachable, with strong interpersonal skills and the ability to build rapport so students feel comfortable approaching them for support.

At the end of the contract term, success in this position will look like:

  • High student satisfaction: student feedback reflects high satisfaction with their interactions with you, highlighting positive and meaningful engagement.
  • Increased student support: students consistently report feeling well supported by the desk team, indicating a welcoming and helpful environment.
  • Positive engagement at Services Desk: Students express increased engagement and satisfaction with their interactions at the desk and with the desk team, contributing to a more connected HOEM experience.
  • Effective marketing strategies: HOEM maintains full occupancy, with targeted marketing efforts successfully attracting prospective residents, resulting in a measurable increase in inquiries and bookings.
  • Confident communication skills: You’ll demonstrate the ability to effectively use written and verbal communication to respond to a variety of inquiries with clarity and professionalism.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities: You’ll be able to apply critical thinking and communication skills to confidently assess situations and resolve issues effectively.
  • Effective teamwork and task management: Services desk team will work collaboratively, showcasing strong prioritization skills to manage tasks and responsibilities.

Work Schedule

Hours of Work: This position will be part-time, with shifts for each semester being assigned in advance. You’ll be assigned shifts and will work approximately 12 hours per week (depending on the number of shifts you’re assigned). We’ll work around your academic schedule, but we may not be able to take preferences into consideration.

 

Team Meetings: Mandatory and in person. These meetings will be scheduled as early as 7am and as late as 10pm bi-weekly. Exact date and time will be determined as a team based on academic schedules.

 

One-On-Ones: To be scheduled with your supervisor around your academic schedule. Every effort will be made for these to be scheduled during an assigned work shift.

 


Training:
 There is mandatory training that you need to be present for.

Summer: April 28th – 29th, 2025

Academic: August 17th – 22nd, 2025

 


Move-In & Move-out Days:
 Move-in and move-out days are mandatory for the full HOEM team. You will receive at least 2 weeks’ notice for your assigned work hours for these days.

May 3rd, 2025

August 16th-17th, 2025

August 23rd-24th, 2025

 

Away Date Blackout Periods: Due to the cyclical nature of our work, there are specific periods that no scheduled absences will be permitted:

April 28th – May 13th, 2025

August 17th – September 30th, 2025

April 24th – May 3rd, 2026

 

All successful candidates must maintain student status throughout their term of employment. They must also pass a Police Criminal Records Check through their local Police Department at their own expense. Preference will be given to applicants who live at HOEM.
