This is an exciting opportunity to join the Digital Primary Care (DPC) portfolio working as part of a multi-disciplinary product team. We’re responsible for services and products that use digital technology to improve health outcomes for patients and reduce burden on staff. This includes work to support the Delivery plan for recovering access to primary care, Pharmacy First, transformation of technology supplier markets, and development of services for healthcare professionals.

The work we do has a direct impact on patients lives, helping them access the essential services they need as quickly as possible.

Our User Researchers have an inclusive, user-centred approach and enjoy adapting and learning at pace. You will be joining a supportive user research community with opportunity to collaborate and problem-solve with colleagues within the NHS and partners across the health and care system.

You will see real outcomes, and the work you do will have an impact on a national scale, helping our NHS achieve amazing things for patients and health and care staff.

We’re looking for someone who’s able to work to understand complex services and programmes of work, as well as contribute to developing user-centred practices in your team.

As a User Researcher you will be responsible for:
Working on a complex programme that has a direct impact on NHS staff and the public
Working as part of a multi-disciplinary team to conduct user research to understand the needs of healthcare professionals and patients
Leading user research to enable user centred design of inclusive services
Providing user insights that will inform the design decisions made throughout the Agile process from pre-Discovery to go live, aligning these back to strategic objectives
Acting as a champion for users, advocate for their needs to ensure that the work of NHS England is generated by and grounded in user needs

Colleagues with a contractual office base are expected to spend, on average, at least 40% of their time working in-person.

Staff recruited from outside the NHS will usually be appointed at the bottom of the pay band.

NHS England hold a Sponsor Licence; this means that we may be able to sponsor you providing the Home Office requirements are met. The Digital Primary Care team’s vision is to ensure primary care can acquire and exploit the latest technology and data to improve the lives of patients and staff. Our purpose is to:

Optimise use of digital technology, reduce workforce burdens, and improve retention and wellbeing.

We will:
Deliver high quality, user centered, value for money technology upgrades across primary care, to reduce administrative burdens on the workforce and improve access and experience for patients.

Widen access to data held in GP records for citizens, clinicians, the wider workforce and researchers, prioritising key data to optimise pathways and services provision, and enable prevention and self-care.

Drive up the quality and adoption of products and services that support innovation collaboration and continuous improvement, to enable fully integrated care.

Digital Services for Integrated Care (DSIC) – the cohort within Digital Primary Care that you’ll be based in provide healthcare professionals with digital products and services that help them provide the best patient care, reduce burden and provide greater value for money.

We work with health care professionals and primary care staff to understand their needs, and then set and assure against standards for the software they use.

We work with people buying software across the primary care landscape to support them in finding and buying software that meets their needs, has been assured, and is fit for purpose.

We work with suppliers to provide them with a route into market for digital clinical systems.
