Description
From drafting written communications to engage NMC colleagues, monitoring the media and helping us to deliver impactful events, you will experience a variety of opportunities. Within this role you will have placements in the internal communications, media and events teams giving you the opportunity to develop your skills in these areas. You will also have opportunities to build your knowledge and understanding of the impact of integrated communications.
You will work in a fast-paced environment and be supported to learn and develop throughout your time at the NMC.

At the NMC, we use our communications expertise to inform, engage, influence and empower, to support nursing and midwifery professionals to deliver the care people need and expect. We are looking for a communications assistant to join our Communications & Engagement team to support the delivery of our work.
You will have the opportunity to build your engagement skills working in the internal communications teams, support the delivery of events and understand how we work with the media.
You’ll use your written and oral communication skills, excellent attention to detail and organisational skills to help the NMC deliver our commitment to uphold the highest standards of nursing and midwifery across the UK.
About You
You’ll have a keen interest in communications and engagement and a passion for creating change. You’ll be looking for an opportunity to start or build upon a career in communications and engagement. A degree is not required for this role.
- You will have good writing skills and experience of writing for an external audience such as a letter, blog or social media post
- You will have experience of working to deadlines and managing competing priorities.
- You can demonstrate an interest in the health and care sector.
- You’ll be excited by the opportunity to collaborate and engage with colleagues in the Communications and Engagement directorate and across the NMC, as well as with the people, communities and organisations we work with.
- Support the media team to deliver daily media monitoring.
- Support events planning and delivery.
- Support the internal communications team to deliver key information to inform, motivate and support NMC colleagues to deliver their roles effectively.

Our Pay Policy
It is expected that staff new to the NMC will ordinarily be appointed to the bottom of the relevant pay band. However in exceptional circumstances, it may be possible to offer a salary above the bottom of the relevant pay band but we may request proof of current earnings. Please note that we offer an annual review of salaries and adopt a generous progressive pay approach. Further details of which are available on request.
For our internal colleagues, you will be paid in accordance to our internal pay policy.
