The Education Department
The Education department is set up to provide personalised support and structured intervention, including both 1:1 and group sessions and activity. Our programmes are targeted at young people who are at risk of not achieving their potential.
The programmes in this department are delivered in partnership with a variety of professionals, the local authority, schools, educators, youth justice, and other agencies. This joined up approach, brings about meaningful collaboration and means that we are able to support those that need it most. Our programmes focus on positive relationships, developing strong interpersonal skills and building confidence in young people. Aspirations and goal setting are also central to the purpose, enabling young people to consider their future, whether this is linked to building more positive peer relationships or relationships at home, or their long-term future and career aspirations.

Main Purpose of Job
We are looking for personable and committed individuals who can work with young people with challenging backgrounds, providing personalised support, bespoke activity and focused mentoring. You must be able to build rapport with young people and have a belief that with the right tools and support all young people will achieve their potential.
This role will support some of the following programmes;

  • Brighter Futures – weekly 1:1 sessions for children & young people in care, at the edge of care and their families. Supporting with managing challenging behaviours, social, emotional needs and identifying strategies to help move forward.
  • Turnaround Programme – referrals from Youth Justice Service (YJS) who attend a weekly 1:1 mentoring sessions to raise aspirations, divert away from risk taking or criminal behaviour.
  • Focus 30 – intervention to support secondary students struggling to manage their own behaviour in school.
  • Advantage Mentoring – young people with low level mental health needs

Responsibilities

  • Provide 1:1 mentoring to young people
  • To provide tailored, inclusive, high quality and engaging activities which meet the needs of the children and young people.
  • Take a flexible approach to all cases, demonstrating empathy & understanding.
  • Under direction of Line Manager, liaise with parents/guardians/local authority professionals where required.
  • Facilitate and encourage young people to continue on to further programmes (internal/external) and positive pathways.
  • Maintain accurate records as appropriate for each project including Risk Assessments, Registers, Session Logs & case studies; tracking progression.
  • Ensure BFCCST safeguarding standards and expectations are always followed.
  • Regularly liaising with BFCCST Safeguarding team to risk assess each referral effectively, identifying individual support plans where required.
  • Ensure supporting documents and reporting are up to date and entered on internal monitoring systems (Views/Salesforce).
  • Be able to demonstrate a positive impact on the young people you work with.
  • Ensure that all delivery, for which you are responsible, complies with all Brentford FC CST health and safety, safeguarding, GDPR & EDI requirements.
  • Support with any other bespoke education projects in line with funding requirements.

Person Specification

Essential

  • Experience of delivering engaging sessions for young people (10-24yrs) with challenging backgrounds
  • Experience of working with young people, forming strong, positive relationships leading to positive change.
  • Safeguarding Qualification & Emergency First Aid Certificate (or willingness to complete training)
  • Current DBS certificate (a new one will also be processed)
  • A good listener who understands the value of mentoring and 1:1 support
  • Experience of working with young people in a supportive role
  • An understanding of safeguarding and its importance
  • Organised and work with attention to detail
  • Commitment to diversity, equal opportunities and inclusivity
  • Willingness and flexibility to deliver sessions across our catchment areas at our stadium & sports hubs, in schools, PRU’s and youth centres.

Desirable

  • L2 qualification in Mentoring or Youth Work
  • UKCC Level 1/2 coaching qualification or equivalent
  • Mental Health First Aid Certificate
  • Experience of working in a pastoral role
  • Experience working with Youth Justice Services
  • Good knowledge of the local area and demographics (Hounslow and neighbouring boroughs)
  • Ability to adapt sessions to support young people with additional support needs
  • Full UK driving license and access to own vehicle
