Full job description
Tysers is a leading independent international Lloyd’s broker, founded in 1820. Based at the heart of the world’s premier insurance market in London, Tysers employs over 1000 people working with leading (re)insurance markets worldwide to deliver risk solutions to a global client base.
This is an exciting entry-level opportunity to gain an understanding of how Claims are handled from FNOL (First Notification of Loss) through to Final Settlement and Closure of the File. This will include exposure to the Marine & Non-marine Classes of Insurance handled within Tysers and using numerous in-house and external market systems. No prior experience in insurance is required.
Over an 18 month period the successful applicant will combine work and learning to achieve a level 3 Insurance Practitioner qualification in Claims (Cert CII). Applicants should be expect to be office based from our offices at Fenchurch Street in the heart of the London insurance district four days per week.
Key responsibilities:
Create New Claim records within internal system
Create entries and update financial records on relevant system(s)
Support Claims Brokers with the presenting of Claims to Markets
Liaise with TPAs, Adjusters and Lawyers on claims
Liaise with colleagues and Insurers on claims
Attend Client and Market meetings with Brokers, where appropriate
Draft and send standard correspondence
Draft and send non-standard correspondence, under supervision by senior colleague
Answer the telephone, using own judgement on the referral of callers to a senior colleague and ensuring that information given is accurately recorded
Make written records of all conversations with Clients and/or Insurers, or other relevant business contacts, in accordance with the firm’s procedure manual
Under instruction from senior colleagues arrange for payments / liaise with IBA colleagues to arrange payments
Ensure that the firm’s systems and compliance are always followed, in accordance with the firm’s compliance manual
Assist the Claims team, as may be required in effecting various, ad-hoc task
The role holder is required to be familiar and comply with all company policies and procedures and responsible for adhering to the regulatory requirements that are required of the Company and by the Financial Conduct Authority, notably including the Consumer Duty.
Abilities required:
- Basic understanding of the principles of Insurance
- Willingness to learn and develop knowledge of Insurance and the role of the Intermediary (Broker)
- Willingness to attend internal / informal training & mentoring with colleagues
- Willingness to attend external training & mentoring sessions with the apprenticeship scheme providers and training bodies
- Willingness to learn multiple IT systems & applications to facilitate the handling of Claims, including Outlook, Excel, Word, M S teams, Sharepoint; plus Tysers/Insurance Specific systems such as IMPACT, C-Connect, Class, ECF
- Good level of interpersonal & communication skills, both verbal and written
- Good level of organisational skills
- Ability to prioritise workload(s) and study time

- On target towards or completed 3 A Levels or equivalent (Grade C or above) and at least five
GCSEs between 9-4 (or A*-C), two of which should be English and Maths. - Strong IT skills.
